Two Poems Are Better Than One

It's poetry month!
I think the only publisher who actually celebrates this month is
Random House.
I get a poem a day from them
for the month of April every year
in my e-mail.
It's a lovely thing.

Anyway, I'm not sure how prolific I will be this month,
but here are two poems
just for you:
"Two Cats"
*(Wee came up with the first two lines.
When I asked her what she does when she's sad,
she said she hugs her cats.)
and
"Dead Bird"
*(It's about the dead bird I saw this morning of all mornings.)

I'm a little rusty at writing poetry,
so just laugh with me.
Okay, here goes:

Two Cats

Two cats are better than one
Two cats are so much fun
Two cats, paired like peas in a pod
Two cats, neither of them are named Todd
Two cats, frowning at your skeptical face
Two cats, next on The Amazing Race
Two cats hike the Appalachian Trail
Two cats will never fail
Two cats are asleep in your shoes
Two cats got into your booze
Two cats think your stupid joke is funny
Two cats fart after tasting honey
Buht, buht
Buht, buht
Buht
Two cats slide through a box
Two cats chase the fox
Two cats love, love, love fish
Two cats, they share a splish!
Two cats nap on your head
Two cats, they pretend that you're dead
Two cats are better than one
Two cats are so much fun

Dead Bird

Oh, bird.
You once took flight,
high up in the air,
morning, noon, and night.
You loved what you did,
though perhaps a little too much.
Now you're feeling
a bit out of touch.

As they saying goes:
Pimpin' aint eazy.
But just keep swimming,
just keep swimming,
and life was but a dream.
Naw mean, bra?

Chinese New Year 2013 Part 2: Hijinks

Now that's a smart-looking pomelo.

This crazy guy was the highlight of New Year's celebrations for some.

Yeah, she's really into it.

Sam is pretty amused.

Dare we disrespect the god's cup?

At first no, but how could we not resist?

Finally PoPo gives him a nut.

Baby Pigs!

I love pigs,
especially baby ones.

This ad was meant for me.

What animal would you find more appealing?
Pandas? Polar bears? Penguins? Sloths?

Confucius Style Poultry

It wears a little pin.
So you know what style poultry it actually is.

Itty-Bitty Kitty Needs a Home!

Any takers?
Wee found this little cat in the backyard.
She looks well behaved.
Not like a diva . . . like some cats.

Thanksgiving 2012: The Juicy Turkey

My aunt Florence (Ayee) successfully replicated
her giant juicy turkey for Thanksgiving this year.

I'll reveal how big the turkey was at the end of this post,
but try to guess.

There were twelve of us:
four Hues and Chris
five Solazzos and Jon
and PoPo.

My cousin Samantha is giving us some perspective
by showing how big the turkey is compared to her mouth.
Good job, Sam!

I'm guessing you think that it looks a little burnt.
That just adds flavor, baby.

She's Alton's #1 fan.

We used some of the extra leftover vegetable stock that she had
made for the brine
for a Parmesan soup for a light dinner on Friday.

Turkey leg.
None of us ate it or took it home.
We left it for PoPo
to eventually make a delicious Chinese soup out of it.

Warm, juicy turkey.
You have no idea how good this is.
It's like what every turkey should taste like.
Sweet and intensely turkeyish and a little salty.

What's interesting is that last year my aunt
was a little worried about the kitchen not smelling
like delicious turkey.
You know why?
Because all the juices stayed inside the turkey
for flavor.
Damn good flavor too.

(Auntie Anne's burns a vanilla candle
to whet your appetite.)

Cutting up the breast,
cutting up the breast,
cutting up the breast.

Mmm, mmm good.
Mmm, mmm good.

That reminds me of the
Giblets (c) 2012 Christina and Lisa Solazzo
song and dance
we made up.

Man, Thanksgiving was fun!

26.82 pounds!

It was a giant bird that didn't die in vain for this holiday.
Thank you for your life, Mr. Turkey.
Thanks for the great turkey, Ayee!

Lauren the Cat

I wish I could be a cat sometimes.
Warm with fur.
Just hanging out on my back on the carpet.
Soft and a little tubby.
People miffed about why I only want my belly rubbed
when I'm ready.

Meow.
Pftt . . . pfttttt!

Raccoon tail.
Slinks to bedroom under the comforter.
Wet food.
Dry food.
Water.

Cats/dogs.
Eh.
The only shit I want to deal with is my own.

He Can Has a Bucket!

I'm basically taking the photo and my facts from this New York Times article.

For some reason
I really adore
this 234-pound,
15-week-old baby.

His name is Mitik,
but his friends call him Mit.
I hope this isn't some weird
subconscious-brainwashing thing
to start loving things named Mit,
because there's that other famous Mitt,
who in a contest of
cute baby animals
would definitely lose.

"We say he is small, but scrappy--the perfect New Yorker."

Life Is Shore Good

This summer has passed by wayyy too quickly.

The water was so warm the weekend this photo was taken.
So warm!
(Dani swam well, Mr. Kero. Really well. Not struggling at all.)

Life is "Shore Good"!
We got doughnuts-ice-cream sundaes.
Yeah.
It's a doughnut and ice cream in a sundae form.
What?!

Hetal had very high heels on when she came from her friend's engagement party.
Like ten inches.
(Okay, more like five.)

She borrowed my shorts and flip-flops for a "shore good" life.

Dani told us her small bear/raccoon story,
which was hilarious.

She attacked Hetal with the small bear/raccoon stuffed animals
that night.

Jon's ankle and wrist were swollen from his falls (yeah, two of them that week),
but that got him out of going to the beach.

I love the summer!!!
